cobedding

n. the practice of placing sibling infants, such as twins, in the same crib, bed, or incubator. There is some evidence of improved outcomes for infants born prematurely and those with low birth weight who are cobedded in neonatal intensive care units. However, the practice of cobedding infants at home remains controversial as it is assumed to present an increased risk of sudden infant death syndrome. Compare bed-sharing.
