closed call system

a system of vocal communication in which there is a limited number of vocalizations that can be used by an organism or in which the vocalizations are not modifiable after a certain age. For example, in some bird species there is little evidence of environmentally induced change in calls after hatching, and in others there is little or no change in vocalizations after a critical period for learning has ended. Compare open call system.
