clinical interview

a type of directed conversation initially used with children but now applied in a variety of contexts, including human factors research, psychological assessment, and treatment planning for patients by mental health professionals. In a clinical interview, the investigator may utilize certain standard material but essentially determines which questions to ask based on the responses given by the patient to previous ones. This technique is largely spontaneous and enables the interviewer to adapt questions to the patient’s comprehension and ask additional questions to clarify ambiguities and enhance understanding.
