classifier system

a cognitive architecture consisting of a computational system in which knowledge, in the form of “if → then” classifier rules, is exposed to a reacting environment and as a result undergoes modification over time (learning). The entire system is evaluated over time, with the importance of the individual classifier seen as minimal. See adaptive production system. [created in 1986 by U.S. computer scientist John Henry Holland (1929–  )]
