chromatic aberration

a defect in the image formed by a simple glass lens resulting from the fact that light of short wavelength is refracted to a greater extent than light of long wavelength. It causes different colors to be focused at different distances, so that the image has colored fringes. Chromatic aberration can be corrected by the use of an achromatic lens. Also called chromatic error.
