chemesthesis

n. the sense receptive to chemical stimuli through activation of receptors in the eyes, nose, mouth, and throat other than those associated with the chemical senses, typically those involved in pain, touch, and thermal awareness. An example is the activation of pain receptors deriving from the burn in the taste of a chili pepper. Also called common chemical sense.
