cerebrovascular insufficiency

failure of the cardiovascular system to supply adequate levels of oxygenated blood to the brain tissues. The condition usually arises when one of the four main arteries supplying the brain—namely, the two carotid and two vertebral arteries—is interrupted. It may also result from generalized arteriosclerosis or the inability of the heart to maintain adequate blood flow to the brain. Also called cerebral vascular insufficiency.
