cerebral hyperplasia

an abnormal increase in the volume of brain tissue, usually due to a proliferation of new, normal cells. Although neurons do not proliferate after the central nervous system has reached maturity, cells of the glia do continue to multiply into adulthood; in some cases neuroglial cell growth is associated with hydrocephalus.
