n. the tasks carried out by a professional, usually a social worker known as a caseworker, that include identifying and assessing the needs of an individual and his or her family and providing or coordinating and monitoring the provision of such services as private counseling, treatment in a hospital or other institution, or arranging for public assistance, housing, and other aid. Also called social casework.
