canonical analysis

any of a class of statistical procedures that assess the degree of relationship between sets of variables via interpretation of a limited number of linear combinations of specific values of those variables. The overall objective of such procedures is to reduce the dimensionality of the data under investigation. Examples include canonical correlation analysis, discriminant analysis, multiple regression, and multivariate analysis of variance, among others.
