Calvinism

Calvinism

n. a form of Protestant Christianity based on the teachings of French-born reformer John Calvin (1509–1564, also known as Jean Cauvin). He taught that God will grant salvation only to those who are predestined to receive it as an unmerited gift, the rest of humanity being predestined to damnation. Humans therefore can do nothing to save themselves and have no free will. See predestination.
