the maintenance of calcium levels in the blood and other extracellular fluids. Secretion of parathyroid hormone by the parathyroid glands causes release of ionic calcium from the bones, whereas calcitonin, produced by the thyroid gland, promotes calcium resorption.

hypoxia

hypoxia

n. reduced oxygen in the body tissues, including the brain. This can result in widespread brain injury depending on the degree of oxygen deficiency and its duration. Signs and symptoms of hypoxia vary according to its cause but generally include shortness of breath, rapid pulse, fainting, and mental disturbances (e.g., delirium, euphoria).
