buprenorphine

buprenorphine

n. an opioid analgesic that is a partial agonist at mu opioid receptors. It is used for the treatment of moderate to severe pain (U.S. trade name: Buprenex) and also for the management of opioid dependence, for which it is used either alone (U.S. trade name: Subutex) or in combination with naloxone (U.S. trade name: Suboxone).
