borderline

1. adj. pertaining to any phenomenon difficult to categorize because it straddles two distinct classes, showing characteristics of both. Thus, borderline intelligence is supposed to show characteristics of both the average and subaverage categories. See also borderline disorder; borderline state.

2. n. an informal or shorthand designation for someone with borderline personality disorder or its symptoms.
