body temperature

a measure of body heat which is normally about 98.6°F (37°C) in humans. Body temperature affects all metabolic processes, and most cells must remain within the range of 32° to 113°F (0–45°C). Animals are characterized as endotherms or ectotherms according to how they regulate body temperature. See also heat effects; hypothermia.
