in psychoanalytic theory, the part of the ego that develops out of self-perceptions of the body. It is the first manifestation of the core of the ego around which all perceptions of the self are grouped, including individual memories, sensations, ideas, wishes, strivings, and fantasies.

visual consciousness

those contents of consciousness that have a visual origin. Operationally, such consciousness consists of those visual events that can be reported, distinguished from each other, and acted upon on request. Given these criteria, visual consciousness does not include blindsight.
