birth injury

physical damage incurred during birth, especially malformation or brain injury. Damage is most likely to occur in transverse or breech births, in instrumental deliveries (e.g., with forceps), in premature infants and multiple births, in episodes of anoxia or hypoxia, or in prolonged labor.
