anilide

anilide

n. any of a group of aniline derivatives developed as analgesics and antipyretics. The parent compound, acetanilide, was originally introduced in 1886 as an antipyretic, but its toxicity led to its disuse and the development of a number of derivatives, of which acetaminophen is the only member in current use.
