behavioral toxicology

the study of the behavioral impact of toxic exposure. There is increasing evidence that many toxins produce subtle behavioral changes, often in neurosensory functioning, at levels far below thresholds for detectable neurological damage. Perhaps the best known example is lead, which is now banned from gasoline and interior paint in many countries because of its low-level toxicological effects on the behavior of developing children.
