awareness training

an approach in psychology and education that stresses self-awareness, self-realization, exploration, and interpersonal sensitivity. Awareness training is associated with such writers as German-born U.S. psychiatrist Frederick (Fritz) S. Perls (1893–1970) and U.S. psychologist William C. Schutz (1925–2002).

dual representation

the ability to comprehend an object simultaneously as the object itself and as a representation of something else. For example, a photograph of a person can be represented both as the print itself and as the person it depicts. Also called dual encoding; dual orientation.
