1. the extent to which a stimulus is associated with other ideas, memories, or values.

2. the extent to which people are able to ascribe meaning to an apparently meaningless stimulus, for example, an arbitrary consonant-vowel-consonant trigram (e.g., KEX or DAG) presented during an association test.
