1. n. something that accompanies or is categorized with something else.

2. n. a friend, partner, colleague, or accomplice.

3. n. in learning studies, a word that is paired with another word to be learned with it (see paired-associates learning).

4. vb. to use mental processes to form a connection between ideas, events, objects, and so forth.
