n. an atypical antipsychotic agent of the dibenzo-oxepino pyrrole class that is thought to exert its effects by acting as a dopamine D2 and serotonin 5-HT2A receptor antagonist. It is used in the treatment of schizophrenia and, alone or as adjunctive therapy, for acute treatment of manic or mixed episodes of bipolar I disorder. U.S. trade name: Saphris.
