arteriole reaction

a response controlled by the autonomic nervous system and marked by a change in the diameter of the arterioles, which control the flow of blood from the arteries to the capillaries. Smooth muscle in the walls of the arterioles is particularly sensitive to sympathetic nerve impulses and may react to anger, fear, or other emotions by producing dramatic changes of blood pressure.
