arc sine transformation

a means of changing proportional data to approximate a normal distribution: Percentages that denote counts or frequencies are converted into a new set of scores whose distribution assumes a bell-shaped curve. The process minimizes variances across the different groups being compared and allows for the application of certain analytic techniques requiring that normality and other assumptions be met. Also called angular transformation; arcsine transformation.
