anxiety neurosis

in psychoanalysis, a disturbance in which the most prominent symptoms are persistent anxiety and feelings of impending disaster, accompanied by such symptoms as difficulty in making decisions, insomnia, loss of appetite, and heart palpitations. This term is now seldom used: The current classification of chronic anxiety of this nature is generalized anxiety disorder. Also called anxiety state. See also anxiety disorder.
