anthropological linguistics

the branch of linguistics that draws connections between the characteristics of a particular language and the cultural practices, social structures, and worldview of the society in which it is spoken (see linguistic determinism; linguistic relativity). The field developed primarily from an interest in describing languages indigenous to North America, such as Navaho and Hopi.

dihydroergotamine

n. a semisynthetic derivative of the ergot alkaloid ergotamine, used in the treatment of acute migraine headache. It is a potent vasoconstrictor due to its ability to antagonize alpha-adrenergic receptors in blood-vessel walls as well as serotonin and dopamine receptors. U.S. trade names: DHE 45; Migranal.
