analyzer

n. a theoretical part or function of the central nervous system responsible for making evaluations of stimuli within particular senses. Each sense (e.g., vision) has a series of analyzers, and each analyzer is responsive to a particular stimulus dimension (e.g., color, length, orientation, or brightness). The concept was introduced by Ivan Pavlov.
