allosteric modulation

the binding of a substance (called an allosteric modulator) to a certain site on a receptor in a way that alters the conformation of other sites on the receptor, thereby increasing or decreasing the affinity of the receptor for other molecules. Allosteric modulation has been recognized as an alternative pharmacological approach to gain selectivity in drug action.

psychomimic syndrome

a condition in which an individual who lacks physical evidence of an illness develops symptoms of an illness experienced by another person, who may have died of the disorder. The symptoms usually occur around the anniversary of the death of the other person. See also anniversary reaction.
