alley problem

the conundrum posed by the apparent convergence of two parallel structures that extend from the viewer into the distance. Parallel rows of trees, railroad tracks, or walls of buildings forming an alley are all common stimuli that appear to meet in the distance. See also illusion; linear perspective.
