alcohol intoxication
in DSM–IV–TR and DSM–5, a reversible condition that develops soon after the ingestion of alcohol. It comprises behavioral or psychological changes, such as inappropriate or aggressive behavior, impaired judgment, or impaired social functioning; and physiological changes, such as slurred speech, unsteady gait, and disruption of attention or memory. The effects typically become more marked with increased alcohol intake. Severe intoxication levels can result in respiratory depression and death. See also substance intoxication.
