aglossia

n. congenital absence of the tongue, a condition rarely occurring in isolation and most often accompanied by other systemic abnormalities, such as cleft palate, malformed limbs, and missing fingers and toes. Hypoglossia refers to a short, incompletely developed tongue. Both aglossia and hypoglossia result in difficulty or inability to achieve articulation.
