affordance

affordance

n.

1. in the theory of ecological perception, any property of the physical environment that offers or allows an organism the opportunity for a particular physical action. An example is the location of the handle on a refrigerator. When the handle is on the left-hand side, it affords a left-hand reach-and-grasp movement.

2. the ease with which the action possibilities of an item or system can be discerned, as in “this remote control has bad affordance.”
