action painting
a form of painting, often used in art therapy, in which individuals spontaneously create unplanned abstract works using unconventional techniques, such as splashing, dribbling, trickling, or slapping the paint more or less randomly onto the canvas. When used therapeutically, these productions are reviewed and incorporated into treatment. Also called tachisme.
