vertebral artery

vertebral artery

a paired artery that runs upward alongside the vertebrae of the neck. Each vertebral artery enters the skull through the foramen magnum (see foramen) near the top of the spinal column, where it joins the vertebral artery from the other side to form the basilar artery.
