Type IV cell

Type IV cell

a type of cell assumed to be a stem cell for the creation of taste cells. Type IV cells comprise 5% of the cells in a taste bud and are confined to its basal lamina. These cells have no receptor function, possessing neither access to the taste pore nor synapses with peripheral nerve fibers. Also called basal cell.
