n. an anticholinergic drug used in the treatment of drug-induced parkinsonian symptoms, such as those produced with use of conventional antipsychotics, and as an adjunctive treatment for Parkinson’s disease. It acts by exerting a direct inhibitory effect on the parasympathetic nervous system and a relaxing effect on smooth musculature. U.S. trade name: Artane.
