stress–vulnerability model

stress–vulnerability model

the theory that a genetic or biological predisposition to certain mental disorders (e.g., schizophrenia, mood disorders) exists and that psychological and social factors can increase the likelihood of symptomatic episodes. See also diathesis–stress model.
