spermatozoon

n. (pl. spermatozoa) a single male gamete that develops from a secondary spermatocyte following its development from spermatogonia of the seminiferous tubules. A spermatozoon fuses with a female gamete (see ovum) in the process of fertilization. Also called sperm. See also spermatogenesis.
