sleep center

an obsolete name for an area in the hypothalamus formerly thought to control sleep. It has now been shown that no single area of the brain governs the sleep–wake cycle; rather, multiple areas, including the hypothalamus and reticular activating system, have been implicated in its regulation. See also waking center.
