self-punishment

n. the act of inflicting physical or psychological harm on oneself for one’s perceived misdeeds. Self-punishment ranges from blaming oneself unjustifiably for negative occurrences to attempted suicide, and it commonly occurs in severe cases of major depressive disorder.
