retinal bipolar cell

retinal bipolar cell

any of various neurons in the inner nuclear layer of the retina that receive input from the photoreceptors (retinal rods and retinal cones) and transmit signals to retinal ganglion cells and amacrine cells. Rods and cones are served by different populations of retinal bipolar cells, called rod bipolars and cone bipolars, respectively.
