Renshaw cell

Renshaw cell

a neuron that inhibits motor neurons near the spinal cord. Renshaw cells are a part of the negative feedback system that prevents rapid, repeated firing of motor neurons. See also recurrent collateral inhibition. [Birdsey Renshaw (1911–1948), U.S. neurophysiologist]
