n.

1. any kind of meaningful connection between two or more events or entities. The specific nature of this connection varies with the context and discipline. In science, for example, a relation is primarily a causal relation. See causality; relationship.

2. an individual connected to another by blood, marriage, or adoptive ties. See also kinship.
