red reflex

red reflex

the red color reflected through a person’s pupil when light is directed toward the retina along the line of regard of the observer’s eye. It occurs because the light is reflected by the vascular retina; the absence of a red reflex may indicate lens opacities (cataract) or retinal abnormalities.
