1. adj. denoting a speech sound in which the airstream is partially or totally obstructed and suddenly released. A plosive sound may be voiced (e.g., [b], [d], [g]) or unvoiced (e.g., [p], [t], [k]).

2. n. a plosive speech sound. Also called obstruent; stop.
