pattern analysis

pattern analysis

a class of methods (e.g., cluster analysis, factor analysis, discriminant analysis) used by researchers to recognize and find systematic regularity within a much larger data set. Often, these methods use computer modeling and simulation approaches and involve data mining, image processing, and the study of networks.
