n. a neurosurgical technique in which electrodes are used to selectively lesion the globus pallidus. Pallidotomy is sometimes used for the management of disorders involving damage to the extrapyramidal tract, as in patients with Parkinson’s disease for whom other treatments (e.g., with levodopa) have proved ineffective.
