overidentification

overidentification

n. in structural equation modeling and similar statistical techniques, the presence of more parameters in a model than are required to correctly specify the relationships among the variables of interest. In other words, the number of known parameters exceeds the number of free parameters, allowing one or more values to be estimated in more than one way. Compare underidentification.
