literal paraphasia

literal paraphasia

a type of speech disturbance in which phonemes are substituted, exchanged, deleted, or added in speech, making it difficult to comprehend what the individual is trying to say. For example, tar may be used for car. Also called phonological paraphasia. See paraphasia.
